The Supreme Court of the State of New York hearing Mr Vladislav Doronin’s claim against Omar Amanat for fraudulent inducement to enter an agreement and unjust enrichment, has stayed those proceedings pending completion of related UK litigation. The UK dispute concerns the shareholders agreement governing the management of the Aman Group of hotels.
Judge Melvin L Schweitzer made his decision on the basis that the issues in both the US and UK cases overlapped and there were common questions of law and fact.
The decision to stay the proceedings meant that Mr Amanat failed in his attempt to have Mr Doronin’s claim dismissed, and he also failed in his attempt to have what he described as prejudicial and scandalous material struck out of the evidence.
The UK case progresses on its timetable with the trial listed for late 2015.
Mr Doronin said “Aman resorts is a real estate business with huge potential and I continue to focus on ways to grow and expand the brand. We have a great team in place and a clear vision of the future of Aman group. We look forward to continuing to realise this vision, in particular through the urbanisation of the brand, and delivering the excellence demanded by our loyal clients and those being introduced to Aman resorts for the first time”.
